CSR was retained by Galway City Council to prepare a Recreation and Amenity Needs Study.

The study was to assess the demand for and supply of open space and recreation facilities in Galway City and surrounding areas and to assist in meeting current and future recreational needs of the city’s growing population.

CSR carried out audits of open space, ecological areas, coastal and waterways and sports facilities as well as surveys to assess current and future needs. Galway City has many natural heritage sites so a key consideration was also the management of these amenities to maximise recreational potential while preserving their ecological importance.

Extensive consultation with the public, clubs, organisations and stakeholders, along with our own analysis, generated a comprehensive set of strategic policies and actions for each facility and amenity.
