CSR acted as project planner and landscape architect on the planning application for a 100 bed nursing home in Roundwood, Co. Wicklow. The site is part of an historic demesne landscape featuring extensive mature woodland, located just beyond the edge of the town.
Collaborating with Darmody Architects, CSR’s landscape design sought to capitalise on the woodland setting and produce a beautiful, stimulating and therapeutic environment for residents and visitors. CSR also provided arboriculture services, ensuring that the historic woodlands would be protected in the development process.
For CSR’s planning team, challenges to overcome included an absence of policy/zoning for nursing home development in the town; the site location outside of the town boundary; road and pedestrian access issues; and potential landscape and ecological impacts. CSR ensured that these issues were comprehensively addressed in the planning application. CSR also advised the developer during the process of consultation with the local authority, neighbours and other stakeholders, and the project was granted planning permission without any appeal to An Bord Pleanála.
